Does this hose look normal? Looks like it's been under severe vacuum to me...

1990 100 5 cyl, NA, stock.
While poking around the engine compartment this weekend I noticed this hose that's all crushed. It appears to run from the drivers side of the block to a metal pipe; the metal pipe runs to the throttle body.
Is this normal? If not, is it indicative of any typical problems?

That'd be your crankcase breather hose. They come to look like that because they are under vacuum and exposed to hot oily air. I replaced mine that looked that way with no change in performance. Some folks have cobbled together a replacement, I bought mine from Blau.

Like RB says, that's the crankcase breather that gets weak from exposure to hot oil. Some folks have used the kind of spring they used to put in coolant hoses to keep the crankcase breather open.
