Default Dumb starting problem !!

I went to start my car yesterday, 20 degrees out cold engine, and I was cranking and cranking, Nothing! Checked a spark, there was a spark, checked fuel, was fuel! Still wouldn't start, even though it started right up in the morning when it was 5 degrees out!! Had to hook up a car to jump it. Finally I sprayed a crap load of starting fluid behind the airfilter and it started right up with a lot of black smoke from fuel being in there.
Anyone know what this none start thing could have been? Really could leave me stranded somewhere. I have dry gas in the tank, so I really dont think it was fuel icing. It's happened once before too. HELP!!
Thanks

I had the same problem with my car, was starting fine the one moment but wouldn't start a couple of hours later. It started again the next morning.

It turned out that the problem was a loose connection in the starter relay, it was soldered and have worked fine since then.

Default possible, but it still had a spark.

Good suggestion though. Just really wierd that it had fuel pumping and it had a spark but it didnt fire up.

eliminate the need for a tune up then, using dry gas, then start thinking bad sensor

Sound as though the car is flooded. Could be your injectors needs cleaning and or replaced. It is suppose to produce a fine mist. The starting fluid is more explosive than gas and it was already a fine mist when you spary it into the air cleaner. The black smoke after starting usually indicates a too rich mixture.

Default add techron or TL3 fuel injector cleaner......

that will help clean dirty injectors, plus just good preventive maintenance every 3-4 months or so. You could just have a tank of bad gas...........Rooster
