I'm picking up at late 70's or early 80's 5000 for $150. The previous owner told me there are some electrical problems. I was wondering if there are any typical electrical problems that anyone is aware of, so i may troubleshoot them properly..
TIA

Besides the grounds 10Mghzs notes, common Audi electrical issues include broken wires at the trunk lid hinge and front doorjambs, failed rear seat cigarette lighter sockets, corroded wire to the starter, and broken wires at almost every sensor in the engine compartment. Oh, yeah, most of the switches will quit too.

I haven't had too many of the problems that Kneale mentioned - there aren't as many sensors and wiring on the T43 as the T44.
That said, however, the taillight ground problem manifested itself early on my car, and was repaired by adding a wire to ground at the taillight mounting bolts for each taillight.
Seat heaters broke...nothing new there (look to Huw Powell's web site for a fix if it worries you).
One real strange problem I had was that occasionally the turn signals would flash the dash lights - which turned out to be a corroded turn signal light assembly in the bumper.
The only truly mysterious electrical issue with my T43, which continues to this day, is the electronic cruise control. The warning light occasionally comes on when the system is off, you can turn it on and set it and maybe nothing will happen, maybe it will work off the bat, but most worrysome of all is when it doesn't work for a while, and then slams the gas pedal to the floor. If your car was built after 1980 then chances are you'll have a vacuum-operated cruise like most other 5k's...same problems manifest themselves with those on T43 and T44.
Cheers!

this seems like a dumb question, but the car I'm picking up, the owner told me its had "electrical problems" that keep it from running sometime, my first instinct is to check all wires from battery starter and further main components that would keep it from running..
Once I actaully pick it up, I'll make a post about it and what I'm experiencing, thank you for all your help so far!
