I believe its GUNK engine flush. They say put it in the engine before changing the oil and let it idle for 5 minutes (do not drive or run for much longer!!) then drain the oil. There is a coating of gunk in parts of the engine, I can wipe some off with the oil cap off, in the valve cover. I know the chemical will probably clean out the engine nicely (and then I would add restore 5 cylinder formula
with fresh oil) But can the chemical damage anything? Anyone have experiance with flushing engines or anything? Thanks!

IMHO, anything that thins out the oil is no good. I have never used the product, maybe some others have, they would know better. I think that given the age of our vehicles, it's best to leave well enough alone.

Funny, I actually did this on my 88 5ks right after I had just bought it...
It sure did SEEM to make the car run better.
I haven't used after that. the car now has 60k miles put on it since then so I don't think it damaged anything.
Funny story: There's a well known member over in the 4000 forum who actually blew his 5 cylinder engine up because he thought you were supposed to drive the car with the engine cleaner in it. Ouch!

haha yes, thats evilclown who blew up his 5 cylinder. I asked him about it on IM and he said "dont drive with it like that, you'll throw a rod like I did" soo just follow the directions
But I believe if you use it right, it will do good. The only think I would have concern about are the seals.

My best luck for flushing the engine is to do a second oil change after running the engine for about an hour. Let the oil drain overnight. There is no way that will hurt anything either.

the engine flush contains one of two things or a mixture these are:
#1 : Kerosene
#2 : Turpentine
both willl remove the varnish and sludge
I usually just buy a gallon of kerosene and run 50/50 oil/kerosene and have never had a prob
dont try this with your precious audi BUT: i once
used 100% kerosene in an engine that had 2 supposedly collapsed lifters, at 287,000 miles (2.8 chevy V6 HI-po)
let it run to operating temp, drained, did it again, then put fresh rotella T (high detergent due to it being a diesel oil) and the engine ran like a champ again, even with the high mileage on the engine i had no probs with this.
The kerosene even swelled up some leaking seals so oil consumption decreased some

thats a really smart idea ! And even if the engine would of gone on you who cares with soo many miles. Actually an engine can idle with nooo oil for a long time, it doesnt require much lubrication at all in idle. Kerosene is very thin, oil based and must have enough lubrication for idle. You can probably idle an engine with olive oil. :-)

exactly i paid 100 for the car, sold it for 250 bucks, it was stolen twice and recovered...so who cares...the second time i ran teh 100% kerosene through i let it run for 30 minutes
