I just got this of the blaufernugen website which gaves tech help for AUDIS.
EXCESSIVE FUEL CONSUMPTION IS CAUSED BY:
1. cold start valve leaking - pg 25.52 in the bentley manual.
2. differential pressure outside of tolerance - PAGE 25.69 of the bentley manual.
3. unequal injection quantity (quantity dispersion) pg 25.65 of the bentley manual.
can you respond to this please.

Right, "caused by" but not limited to. You need to tackle one component at a time and correct it.
Cold start valve-refers to the cold start injector that's mounted on your intake manifold. If the sensor on the back (I think)of the head has failed, it may keep your cold start inj on all the time. (Not likely).
Diff Press- without seeing the book, I believe they are talking about the fuel press measured between the upper and lower chambers of the fuel distributor. There are gages for measuring this. it should be within a range stated in the book.
Unequal Inj Quant- It just means that the injectors could be weak and the opening pressure governed by the internal spring has allowed fuel to squirt out early effectively injecting too much fuel in the cyl at a time.
Did you fix the eng temp probem first though??

I am putting the gauge on tomorrow morning. and then i will see what happens. do you know what is the best tool out there to remove the MFTS with. cuz there is not enough space between there, with the hydrolic pump being right there?

It is no big deal to unbolt the hyd pump from the bracket. leave the hose connections on and just move the pump aside. Then you can get a wrench if you are careful, Large adjustable pliers, aka water pump pliers. I don't remember what the size is but you might have to go buy a single wrench to do the job.
Did you change the fan temp switch on the radiator?

Pep Boys et al sell 29 mm deep impact sockets for use on some cars' axle nuts. Abt $9.00
I've always accessed this thermoswitch from above. The hose that's immediately above it gets in the way. You may be able to access it from beneath the car.
Not sure what wrench size is for the MFTS. Maybe 29mm.
