Extra-strong hood struts
To reduce noise in the cabin, I added about 5 pounds of Dynamat Xtreme and foam to the underside of the hood of my 1988 5000CSTQ. (I then reattached the stock underhood pad.) The extra weight quickly collapsed a new pair of stock hood struts. I contacted Strutwise, a Canadian company, who manufactured a pair of custom hood struts for me.
They work well: the heavier-than-stock hood opens quickly and stays open. They're constructed of stainless steel and are guaranteed for the life of the car.
(Did this sound treatment work? Yes, it, combined with sound treatment elsewhere, means that I can barely hear the engine running from inside the cabin.)

by quite a bit, too. Yea that'd be my first guess. It has the front portion plus a lot of its own dampening. cool idea though, what'd the hood struts run you? Stainless is nice too.

Part 443 823 359 B is the same for A100/200 from 1984 and V8Q. My catalogs doesn't show A5000 which is pure USA model, but I think that originally it is the same part number as well. Am I correct ?

Damn those are nice hood struts, I also like the idea of the V* struts, but for my car for some strange reason my hood Struts are factory mounted the opposite direction from yours in this picture. I can't figure out what in the hell Audi did to my 5kt as mine is missing the little ears on the sides of the fender for the lower struts to connect to.
Mine connects as follows, Hood connection is farther up than yours toward the nose, and my lower connection is near the hood hinge. It looks just like my strust are exactly at the opposite angle to yours in this pic. Its been getting on my nerves because every one I order are the style that would fit your car as shown.
I gave up and resorted to my good old stick next to my seat for this, but I am getting annoyed with doing this. I am going to contact this company and get a set made to the length of mine. Unless any V8's have the struts as mine are arranged. These are Stock, it's clearly a factory job on my car.
Cheers,
Mike.
EDIT: Oh wherer those SS hood strust expensive? I figure if you can afford dynamat then you must not be to worried about cost and go for the very best qwhich is awsome, but myself I have only stock hood, so Stock struts may be fine, however I can't justify buying hood struts after every winter so the SS ones may be the way tyo go for me to, you do get what you pay for. I will contact them but It'd be great for a heads up on cost so I don't waste thier time.

Frank Irvine - just a simple pygmy ....
I have decided to buy those struts from http://www.strutwise.com/ and contacted Frank Irvine.
He have asked me for what car, what us the length of original struts, original number, etc.
Deal was made for 110 CAD and I told to Frank all my credit card details.
Some time later on my credit card statement I found that he took 186,3 CAD.......
