I can't remember where I saw it, but a review said that Amsoil was better on all measures.

Default The key is "Fully Synthetic"... some brands markes as synthetic are actually blends...

kind of like wine... so much synthetic in the mix and you can label it as such.

Default I dont necessarily disagree...

However, I question how Dramatic the difference is between say, AMSoil and Mobil 1, or Valvoline's High end oils.

What I;'m saying is, it may very well be true that AMSoil is "better." But who says this? Are we talking about sometihng obvious? Or are we talking about a difference an engineer can point out through precise graphs and stuff? See the difference?

...Also, IMHO, there is no instance I can think of where a car would be notably "better off" in a situation when it had AMSoil than when it had, Say, Mobil 1. One may be better... but if a car is burning oil, its burning oil. If its a clean running car with little issues, that is what it is. Like I said before, its my opinion and ONLY my opinion... but I feel if you use oils in the same price and quality bracket, there should be little issue between one and another.

Default I use mobil1 15w-50 and i assume thats what adam uses also since they dont make 20w50 anymore...

its a good all year round weight IMO, i use for the FULL recomended time in the BMW, which is about 10-15k miles depending on the dash thingie and how I drive, but that car takes 8 qts also and thats the factory recommended change interval. But for the audi, my odometer doesnt work, so i drive it about 6 months and change it, I drive the audi maybe 30-40% of the time so that probably only 3-4k miles between changes, but its been 2 owners back since the odometer died at 200k miles so i baby it a bit.

Default the point i was trying to make.....

is that there isn't a manufacture out there that will "warranty" their oil on a turbo engine. change it at regular 3k mile intervals.

go read labels and see what the breakdown temp of ANY oil on the market is. you'll see my point.

Default Re: the point i was trying to make.....

I run Castrol 5W50 Synthol for 10K miles and do the filter every 5K. Periodic oil analysis confirmns this is a good program for my car and driving conditions. The car seems to agree as I am one oil change away from 400,000 miles.

Personally I would not use anything other than full synthetic in a turbo motor.

Default Ok, dwengi: What is your trick for pulling that feat off ? I envision oil absolutely (edited)

everywhere! * Your trick for changing out your oil filter at the 5k mark of a 10k oil change? Just curious...Never knew anyone that has ever done that. Good for you (and your car) if that works!
* Sorry for any confusion for being non-descriptive earlier.

Default how do you drive your car?

i beat the living tar out of mine. 20+lbs of boost regularly, drag racing, rallyx, autox, TSD rallies. I'm never light on the pedal. almost anytime it gets driven, the manifold and turbo are sure to be glowing like crazy.
