Cuatrokoop:
Thanks for your response. Why is FLAT-TOWING not recommmended? Will it damage the drivetrain? I cannot see how, since all four wheels are turning.
Again, thanks for your response.

Over the distance you may be travelling, there could resulting damage to internals (even Audi says this, has to do with the lubrication method, as not all the gears will be turning and moving the gear oil). For short distances, it would likely be OK. But I would not over long distances. That is why I have a trailer.

Thanks for the explanation. Seems strange, since it would be like "coasting" in nuetral, but I'll take your word for potential damage.
Again, thanks.

The lubrication method is "splash" type, which requires certain gears to turn more often than not (like the main/input shaft). In neutral, not much turns but the diffs. The center diff shares fluid with the gearbox, so if the gearbox is not providing the lubrication, the diff will literally cook itself after a while. Coasting short distances is fine, as you at some point engage a drive gear. Long hauls in neutral is not. Audi would void waranties because of things like that, as it is stated in the users manual (but w/out explanation). ;-)

Just rent one for now, not too bad $$ wise. Open trailers are the cheapest and easiest, but closed trailers offer the best protection and come in handy in moving and storing things...

My trailer is a 20x8 Haulmark. Air down the rear tires on a Chevy Astro, and it fits inside. BTDT.
