Fuel injector cooling fan and injector o-ring question...
When I bought my car, I learned that the previous owner had removed the injector cooling fan. Why? I have no idea. Anyway, I went out and bought a replacement one from the junkyard. When is it supposed to turn on? Same as the after-run pump?
Part two of my question: The upper o-rings on my injectors are so cooked as a result of having not been cooled that they shatter like plastic when you squeeze them. As a result, there is a nice big air leak around each of the injectors (confirmed by pressurizing the intake with compressed air). I ordered a set of new o-rings, which have arrived. Is there any special method of replacing them? THe don't seem like they'd stretch over the nozzle. I see the cir-clip that needs to be removed, but that hardly seems like the largest item the o-ring will have to stretch over. Any tips?

Injector cooling fan after-run thermoswitch is separate
The thermoswitch screws into a small bracket that's welded to the heat shield that covers the topside of the wastegate -- at rear passsenger side of engine.
Can't help you with injector o-rings.

Re: Fuel injector cooling fan and injector o-ring question...
I don't think that your o ring problem was a direct result of not having the cooling fan missing although it didn't help. The cooling shroud is there primarily to aid in keeping the injector lines a little cooler to prevent vapor lock in the metal lines that sit directly over both manifolds when the "heatsoak" time occurs(after you shut down a hot engine). The O rings get brittle from age by just naturally being in a hot enviroment on the head. There are new viton (green) o rings available that do a better job of not breakng down so soon.
There is also a short hose between the intake manifold and the center of the head just below the injector lines. On a turbo engine, that is pressurized air that circulates around each injector for atomization and cooling as well. Is it there?

I like to use DOW 4 silicone grease. Just a little now...
Just enought to aid in slipping the o ring over the ridges (roll them). The O2 sensor doesn't like solicone blowing over it so wipe most of it off. leave just a little film on the outside of the seal to slip it down into the head cavity easily.
