Fuel Pump Screen

I had some problems with the 1990 V8. After about 10 minutes of highway driving it would hesitate and won't rev up to downshift. If the car was turned off for about 10 minutes it would run down the highway fine for another 10 minutes. The fuel pump was starting to get loud too. I pulled out the pump tonight, and there is a fine light brown sludge right under the intake screen. Is this the lining that sheds off and causes the problem I'm having with this car? I will replace the fuel pump, but is it still advised to punch some holes in this screen (after I clean up the inside of the tank) to send the sludge problem to the relatively easy to replace fuel filter?

Hahahahahah ROTF LMAO..
Not too bad once you get the skid plate off. No do not punch hold in the pre-screen. Clean it properly. I think that your trans filter is plugged/partially pulgged and your low on fluid.

That looks OK, no Goo. I still think the problem is with the fuel system. I forgot to mention that when it wouldn't rev up, it was in neutral. I just removed the old fuel filter, I had trouble pushing air through it, even though it was replaced less than 4000 miles ago. I got the wrong fuel pump off Ebay. I need the Bosch 584254040. The one I got doesn't have a way to attach the check valve and noise suppressor, and it's smaller in diameter.
