My 85 5KS may be slightly different from yours, but anyway, you first remove a screw at each side of the parcel shelf, pull shelf towards you. Once removed, you can see the glove box door hinge screws, one on each side. Remove each of them, then open the door slightly and pull the whole glove box towards you. You now have easy access to the programmer, which I believe a post was sent regarding it's removal.
15 years has taken it's toll on the plastic parts in these cars, damage may have already taken place without being readily visible.

On the '87 as mine, I believe there is only the one screw on the left side rear. Open the glove box and it is easily visible in a round type plastic bracket. Unhook the light and lift the box out toward you from left to right.
