i pulled the head off the 3B over the weekend only to discover that the head was mounted to the block with studs and nuts, not bolts like i had originally thought. could this be an upgrade? are studs more durable/reusable? I have ordered new bolts, but if the studs are better, i'd rather not replace them. any advice out there?
thanks!
thanks!

You should check out Raceware or ARP for more details about reusing studs...
I hear they can be reused 3+ times, but don't know if I'd chance it that many...
The only downfall to using the studs is that you will have to retorque them after a couple of heat cycles. This means you'll have to remove the valve cover, etc to do it again...
BTW, I'm pretty sure that the 20vt used bolts from the factory. I know that the MC/MC2 and NA 20v does...

for last 4 years and never I had to retorque the head.
The diference between bolts and studs is that the bolt is 5" long and when its beeing torqued it flexes and on the lengh of the bolt it gives unacurate torque on all bolts.
I have reused head studs on one race car at least 10 times and it still holds 30psi and 150 shot.(NOS)

Well, Raceware recommended to me that the studs be retorqued after a couple of heat cycles...
They told me this over the phone when I called to get some info about the studs I have...
Also, my friend has some ARP studs on his custom 16 valve turbo Corrado and he was told to retorque the head also by ARP...
Thats what I based my info on.
Are you using either brand of studs or something else?
Anyways, hows the car coming along? Got any new pics?
