help needed in understanding idiot light..

Gong sounds a few times and idiot light flashes the red thermometer icon fairly constantly. I don't have the owner's manual and can't find in my Bentley what this means. Is it warning of low coolant level ? or coolant overheating ? martian invasions ?
The temp guage works fine and is showing temp in normal operating range, coolant level is perfect and electric fan comes on when required.
Which sensor is activating this warning and any ideas why ?
sorry for kinda idiotic question but I'm fed up with staring at this light show and being gonged

well she's turning into an expensive lay then ..

as I just bought her a CAD 1500.00 bouquet of a re built trannt.
But seriously, what does this red thermometer icon flashing obnoxiously at me mean ?!

my 200 TQ was doing the same thing, It's low on coolant or the coolant level sensor is stuck/bad in the overflow bottle. Just a tip, check the wiring on the multi fail sensor in the water neck and make sure its not corroded on the back side in the boot. ( the big coolant temp sensor with 4 wires)
