Default Help! Power Steering rack installation failed

I did the install in about 3 1/2 hours and when I went to test it it is pouring out my 15 dollar a liter fluid. I have no idea what is going on. All lines are connected and I can't tell where the leak is coming from...somewhere near the pinion. What can I do?? (the rack came from jorgen) the lines that I had to connect, (just making sure) the line from the pump is next to the firewall and the line from the reservoir is further from the firewall???

Did you remember to replace the crush washers use on the banjo bolt? If it is pouring out then you should be able to see where it is leaking. Did you replaced the high side pressure hose? This is the hose that goes from the pump to the rack. This hose have an outer sleeve which sometime appears to be ok, but the hose underneath the sleeve is the problem. Pep boys at one time did carry this hose.

I don't think that's the problem..after the installation of the new rack there isn't a "leak" there is a flood. I therefore think it is either the rack or the banjo bolts. The hose isn't leaking. I think it's been replaced before as has the ps pump and the rack previously. (this is the 3rd rack) I don't know if I should use copper washers or rubber o-ring on the banjo because Jorgen sent both. I was using both when it was gushing out fluid. (when I say gushing I mean that it took about 30-45 seconds to drain the entire liter. It's got to be a problem with my banjo bolts or one of the metal high pressure lines on the rack, which I doubt - but possible.

I still need a confirmation that the hose from the PS Pump to the rack is supposed to be connected at the rack in the hole closest to the firewall. Thanks.

Just checked my car ('91 100Q) and the line from the hydralic pump to the rack does go to the connection closest to the fire wall. OTO, if you have hooked the pressure lines up in the reverse b4 you would have possibly blown out the seal on the pinion of the rack and it would cause a LOT of fluid to leak including going to the carpet inside by the pedals. Been there with an '84 i used to have : (

Use either copper or rubber washer, but not both. On my previous 1986 5K CSTQ it was copper washers. Installed on either side of the banjo. The high side pressure hose goes from the pump to the rack near the firewall opening (driver side). It goes over the top as stated by tonyj.

Default glad to hear that

I hooked up the lines correctly...so maybe I just didn't have the banjo bolts tight enough??

Default crush washer or o-rings

What came off the lines when you removed the rack?

I have a 91 V8Q with o-ring seals. The line ends have a recessed groove which the o-ring seats into.

The drawing and parts description for the following URL is listed as a 1987 Audi 80/90

(URL is long and is wrapping)

This shows washers in 1987. I agree with previous post that its one or the other but not both. I'm just not sure what's right for yours.
