Help: Righthand steering rack removal

This is my 1st Audi I've just finished the trans overhaul on it (1989 100 2.2EE) and when i went to put it back in i looked upward from in there and discovered the steering rack boot has split right in half. Bit wet with P/S fluid too. I may as well reco it since its easier to access without the trans so disconnected all the couplings and mount bolts & the rack is free. Problem: it's a righthand-drive car so i'll have to pull the rack forward and bring it out through the right side opening but i just can't clear the metal work. Any RH driver folks know what i need to do like alter the metalwork and give me the 1/8" clearance i need to bring that rack forward? Thanx

Did you remove the right tie rod?
Just that little bit allowed me to pull the rack through the hole in the fender well on my (LH drive) car.
I think that Haynes publishes a RH drive shop manual.

Yesiree, the whole steering rack is free, as in nothing is bolted up to it now. I have the Haynes manual but it quotes '...withdraw the steering gear through the aperture in the side panel'. Haynes diagrams a lefthand drive unit. If this car was a LHdriver it would be a cinch because the aperture panel-shape is different on that side and would make it way easier because of the clearence. With it all transposed, i have brakelines interfering things too. How do any of you UK chaps deal with this prob?

I've pulled the rack ok at last...
the left end was fouling up in the cable loom way in there. Just a little compression and i had the clearance. Without a trans in there i was able to put part of the right end thru the aperture and lower the rack down and out the back of the engine.
