Default That, I don't know...

But it was a promotional deal, I think it's a "low mileage" lease, which cuts the monthly payment and down payment substantially.

This is from the VW website. Just linked this morning even though it says the offer ends January 2. I'll bet a comparable lease is in the works. Only 1000/miles per month for 39 months. These leases are for the birds as I drive at least 2500 miles/month!

$199/Month**
2007 Jetta 2.5L with Manual Transmission
39-month lease

$1,974 due at signing
(excluding taxes, title, options, and dealer charges)

Or, see your local VW dealer for one of the many other great lease deals available on Jetta sedans.

**US cars only. $199 first month's payment, $1,200 down payment, and $575 acquisition fee due at lease inception. Monthly payments total $7,761. Based on MSRP of $18,620 for a 2007 Jetta 2.5L Sedan with manual transmission, excluding title, taxes, options and dealer charges. Closed-end lease offered to highest qualified customers by Volkswagen Credit through participating dealers. Supplies limited. Offer ends January 2, 2007. Requires dealer contribution of $542.30, which could affect final negotiated transaction. Lessee responsible for insurance. At lease end lessees responsible for $0.20/mile over 39,000 miles and for damage and excessive wear. Additional charges may apply at lease end. Purchase option at lease end for $10,985.80. Dealer sets actual prices. See your Volkswagen dealer for details.

http://www.vw.com/jetta/offers_incentives.html</a

I'd keep it to drive in crud and as a backup for when you're fixing the other one. When you drive old Audis, you always need another just in case. And while awaiting the delivery of parts. That's why there are five in my yard because sometimes there's only two that can be driven by my wife and I.

Default Amen Kneale!!! It was fun driving it in the snow today here in SLC

The best part of this is that I do not worry about the car at all, so it is very relaxing to drive. Everything that needs to work, works well, and the car is set up for this crud. Thanks.

"These leases are for the birds as I drive at least 2500 miles/month!"

Yes, but they don't, as they just go between home and work with it to save her '98 Cabrio and gas ('00? Durango V8 for towing)...

I have to agree that until I got rid of my '87 5000CSQ that I had since it was new, I did not have a care in the world while driving in heavy snow, sleet or freezing rain. If someone plowed into me, I would sign the title I kept in the car and walk away from it. Not so with my replacement vehicle which is a D3 A8L.

Default I would have hated life in my 540 6 speed! Next year, an S8!

After I get through 2007, I should be in good financial shape again, and while I will keep the hot rod 200 20v, I plan on adding an S8. I got my best friend hooked on Audis (he was the interim owner of my modded 200 20v)and when I bought my 540, he went out and bought a 2003 S8. What a delightful car that is, lots of power and very classy.

Default Not to rain on your parade..........

I am sure you have a nice car, but face it, it has issues. Ask yourself, if you were in the market to buy this car, would you buy the car for $4K, with its existing issues and milage? I have to think not.

Sedan: $2,000 High Mileage - $3,000 Lower Mileage

Some super clean cars could fetch more.

Avant: Now there was only 157 - 159 of them.

I suspect they are more. I'm biased, selling one for $4200: 157K Fair to Good condition (Eye of the beholder). I'd take $3100.

The Engine / ECU combo was about $3k years ago, now the figure has slipped to ~$2,000

I'd put a 3B in a 4000Q :-)
