Default Hey Everyone Audi 100 Question

Hello again to everyone, thank you for your help but I have yet again another fun question about my 1990 Audi 100! =) One more time, my friend bought a new headunit and wants to give me his old nice Sony one. I was wondering can I just switch out the stock Bose Headunit and put in his Sony one, and still be able to use the stock speakers? I heard that I might have to get new speakers before I put in a new headunit, so is that true? Or could I just take it to like Best Buy or Circuit City, and give them the head unit and tell them or ask if they can install it without changing speakers? Because I saw in their car database, 1990 Audi 100 with bose system is on there, so I thought its a strong possibility. Anyway any information would be appreciated!! Thanks again!!

Default Re: Possible

Yes, you can use the stock speakers but you need to feed the rear speakers using the preamp outputs on your Sony headunit.(do not use the speaker outputs from the headunit. The rear speakers have built in amplifiers, one for each.
As for the front speakers, i think they don't have any amps attached to them.
If you pay BestBuy or Circuit City they would certainly do it for you but you'll pay $$$. I would recommend that you use these $$ to buy some new speakers for your car, install them yourself, you can even run new speaker wires and you'll have a nice system. I removed all wires and stock speakers from my Audi 100 when i was installing my stereo system. Now it sounds so much better compared to the stock audio system. Way better! Of course, i did spent money for new speakers, wires, amp, subs and headunit.
You decide which option you prefer, based on your budget.
