Default Hood release broke.........I am beginning to think this car hates me........

pulled the handle, the catch on the driver's side released, passanger side did not. Now, with no resistance with pulling the handle, I see the problem. I can look in through the grill slats, and see the hood cable wire has broken loose at the plastic connector on the passanger side. The white plastic connector dangles loosely at the end of the hood release wire.

I played around with a long screw driver and needle nose pliers poking and pulling things to try to effect hood release, but got no where.

Can anyone help me out? How can I get the hood to release on the passanger side? Thanks for any help.

Default Wire coathanger...McGuyver to the rescue!!!!

They're not just for hanging coats! Cut a length of coathanger wire and bend a hook in one end - the catches on the hood pins are both pulled towards the middle of the car, hook & pull to release the pins.
Get some new plastic golf tees.

BTDT. It works. The V8 is a different story because of the hood/grill changes!

Default McGuyver could do it....

Yep, the V8 is somewhat different, the hood does have the same mounting pins and release mechanism for them. If you can't see the loop on the end of the catch through the grille, then you may have to go underneath....of course, it's easier if the "drip tray" belly pan is off, whether by manually removing it...or having a snowdrift remove it for you.
I've BTDT on my 5ktq, and now I've got the V8 hood on....[knocking on arborite table top]
Cheers!

Default Thanks Tony....

nice discussing things other than how to replace a lightbulb on an A3 ;-)
Interested in making a road trip to AMM 2k6 at the Import/kit show in Carlisle? I'll be trying to get JPF to attend this year.
Cheers!

It would be interesting but PA is quite a drive from Minneapolis. Thanks for asking.
