My pump (a 2 yr old rebuilt A1 Cardone) started leaking fluid from one of the "X" plugs. I ordered another A1 pump locally, installed it last night, and it's leaking from the same plug in the casting. I have another one on overnight order.
Anyone run into this before? Is this an A1 quality issue, or possibly something on my end of the car causing the leak?
Thanx!

Sounds like poor workmanship in the "rebuild". The pumps create the pressure, so if there's a pump issue in one that's just been redone, it probably wasn't redone properly.

a pump leaks because of a bad "O" ring seal at the X, pure and simple. Another pump should solve your problem. I have tried resealing at the "X"s myself, but could never get a good seal. It must take a special tool to really torque down the the "X" headed bolt to get it to seal properly.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't sure if it was a tapered pipe thread or if it had a seal. I attempted to try and tighten it with a large prybay, and then with a hammer and punch. Another pump should be in on Tuesday morning. I hope this one is a little better built.

As specified in the Bentley, the proper tool for removing/installing the mushroom caps is a 1/2" drive drag link socket with the blade trimmed a couple mm on each end. The blade is 3/4" long. I've purchased a couple at Sears for under $10. The caps get tightened to 37 ft. lbs. A 1/2" drive version fits my torque wrench. Bentley specifies a hand-held impact driver turning the drag link socket to loosen the caps. I do it with an air impact. One quick blip of the trigger loosens the cap. The caps are under a bit of spring pressure, so you want to be careful about the final turns of the threads. If you've got the proper reseal kit, not some "looks like it matches" O-ring from the FLAPS, and you keep everything clean and lube the seal with Pentosin, you should be able to clear up leaking caps for a good long time.

two pumps are leaking from the same plug, are they geysers or just a little leak? if it's a geyser and the next one does the same thing you have an obstruction in the line going down toward the bomb, hopefully not I've been there you dont want that. good luck.
