Default Ignition Wires, time for new ones? 8mm vs. 7mm?

OK Audi fans... i have a question. My Ignition wires, distributor cap and rotor are about 80k miles old, all of them are German, Bosch and still look good. Spark plugs are almost new so i'm not conserned about them.

1. Should i replace any of those parts (as preventive maintenace) due to lots of mileage on them even though the car seems to run fine almost all the time (some minor irregular idle problems now and then) ??
2. Should i go for the 8mm "performance" ignition wires or should i stick with regular 7mm wires? Are the 8mm wires much better and worth the $20-30 price difference? Any experience?

Car is Audi 100, AT, 160+k miles

Thanks a lot for any input!

For a stock motor, stick with the 7mm, or maybe the 8mm wires. For a modified motor, start with the 8.5mm wires, and step to the 10mm if you notice you aren't getting a good spark (at high rpms).

I will eventually use either the 8 or 8.5mm on the 10vt. I am a return Magnecore customer, BTW. Very satisfied with their product. If you do run them, keep them in the factory loom so that they don't vibrate and chafe too much. Also watch for cuts on any of the boots. Both will lead to premature failure...It may be covered by the waranty, but I doubt it (would probably be considered "improper installation" and void the waranty).

Mine are 14 years and 250K miles old. Still work fine. Only change them if you just want to. Not necessary as PM at your mileage.

I'd replace the rotor and cap sometime soon. At 80k miles you've gotten your share of money out of them. They're not very expensive. I need to change the cap and rotor on my 5KS soon at 50k+ miles...

I'd stick with 7mm wires in your application. I use the 7mm Bosch ones in my 5KS and they work great...

I'm using custom 8mm wires on my 5ktq and am thinking of upgrading to the 10mm ones sometime soon...

As far as your spark plugs go...you using the right Bosch ones?

Default Re: Plugs....

I used to have Bosch 4+ which weren't great but weren't bad either. Before i had regular Bosch plugs with unknown age but they were OK too.
After long discussions and many recommendations from helpful people in this forum i got NGK, 3-electrodes spark plugs. I've had them for almost 10k miles and they are great. (still like new)

So, i'm not sure if i ever had the "right" type of Bosch plugs. Which ones do you recommend?

Bosch Super's with the tri-electrode. W7DTC for 10v and 10vt applications. F6DTC for 20v non-turbo. I think the 20v turbo spec's an NGK from the factory...
