Default Inside Door Handle

I went to get out of my car yesterday and the release handle broke. Can I just rob one of the back door? What's involved with repairing it?

I really didn't need anything more to fix on this thing right now. Oh well.

Thanks.

There's a couple 100's at the pick-a-part that I go to. I can grab you a new handle there if you'd like. It'd probably cost less than 5 bucks...

That would be great. It's just the silver colored lever. I don't yet know what's involved with fixing it. I've not opened a door up before.

Let me know how to send you compensation/funds.

Thanks.

Replacing is pretty simple. I have had the front doors on and off my car so many times I have grown very accostomed to it. If you pull the lever all the way out and look behind it (hard to explain) there is a little hole with a screw in it. Simply remove the screw and you have the door handle in your hands. Pull it away from the door carefully as there is a little spring clip in there that you don't want to lose as it would require you to take the whole door panel off to get at it. Once you have the handle out and can access the back of it, take off the little spring clip and undo the hook that connects the cable to the handle. Now you have the door handle off. Take the new door handle, hook the hook back on it (easier said than done, I usually manhandle it with some needle nose pliars / leatherman etc. It is pretty durable. Once it is in there, put the clip back on, reinsert the handle into the door, and put that screw back in there. All told, it shouldn't take you more than 5-10 minutes.

I drive a 91 200 tq, I assume the handles are the same, but I cannot make any guarantees.

I tugged on the handle and it came right out. I saw the screw, and I see the spring. I guess it's not "broken", but has become disconnected from the cable you mentioned. I'm guessing I will have to take the door panel off to re-attached what came undone from the spring?

Thanks.

I'm probably going there within the next week or so. If you pull back the lever (well, I guess you don't need to do that now) there is a screw behind there. Remove that and the handle assembly will pull right out. Pry up gently from the front side first. Then it's just a matter of unhooking it from the cable (how to do this is obvious once you have it apart) and putting the new one on.

I'll just grab the whole assembly as it won't make any price difference. Technically it should be mine already because I bought the door off of that car and left that part behind. >:|

Nevermind, I just saw your other reply, and it looks like you've got it fixed now?

Not fixed yet. Need to get the cable reattached to the handle.

But you don't need a new one, right? Or do you? =)

I don't think I do. It looks like things just came undone inside.
