Interior temperature sensor fan making the squeal of death on my V8
This has been an intermittent issue but has lately been more common. For those who have never experienced it the sound is extremely annoying.
A new fan unit is available from the dealership part # 4A0 820 545 for a bit over $100. I'm also considering spraying some sort of lubricant in the air intake vent on the dash and hope some of it reaches the fan however I'm concerned about ruining the temperature sensor which may be more trouble than it's worth.

Anyone ever change one of these out? I'm hoping it can be serviced by removing the glovebox but I'm not sure, I'd really rather not pull the dash out if at all possible.
Thanks!

Skyler,
Yes it can. That fan is mounted on the same bracket as the cruise control module, and the alarm control module.
I wouldn't spray anything into the top as you'll get almost none of it down to the fan itself, and even if you do, the fan has a plastic bottm I'm almost positive none woudl get to the motor.

Just pull the glove box and look "up" as it were..
If you are in need of a replacment PM me.

Re: Interior temperature sensor fan making the squeal of death on my V8
My fan makes an intermittent liveable squeal on high fan speeds. It definitely doesn't sound like the squeal of death (yet) but please keep us posted on how to change the blower.

Update, pulled the fan motor
Ended up having to pull the dash pad, kind of a pain but not horrible.
The motor in the housing is a small unit made by Johnson Electric with a part number marked "1 397 220 162" 12V. I haven't been able to find an exact match for that motor however I have a motor coming from EBAY ($6.50 shipped) made by JE that at least looks similar. I'll need to solder the board from the old motor to the new one, hopefully the motor speed will be close enough to use.

New motor arrived, dimernsioally too long
Might be able to make it work with a bit of trimming. I'm going to see if I can find the one out of my old 5000 and frankenstein something together first though.
