Default key will not turn in ignition switch

I have a 1985 Audi 5000,sometimes when I put the key in the switch and try to turn it the key will not turn but ten degrees. However if I work it for sometimes up to ten minutes it will turn. The steering lock is not bound up.Any ideas, do I need to take a chainsaw to the dash to get to it?

Default Keys get worn and old. Try some dry lube and insert the key the other way up.

I get that sometimes too. Lube and ensure the steering lock isn't clicked in even slightly.

Default sounds like the key or the ignition is worn out. .........

try lubing the lock cylinder to see if that helps. I have also had keys get so worn that they cause the problem. Try another key, see if that helps. Hate to see you have to replace the ignition lock cylinder.
