Default Looks like I'm switching to 20V turbo. *Sad news*

Last week I had some catastrophic failure. For some reason one of the Mosfet driver on Megasquirt burnt up which then caused my injectors to stick on full bore, which hydrolocked the engine. Thats the long story short. I wont go into detail about how fubarred the rings are or how the tow truck driver ripped my newly installed V8 bumper off removing the car from the flatbed.....

I've pretty much been put in a position to either rebuild the 10V engine which I rebuilt not 5 months ago. Or build up a 20V turbo. The car is not going to be back on the road for a while as it is. So I figure maybe I should take the time between now and next spring and make an even more powerfull beast.

I was at about 400 crank hp with my setup. It would have kept me pretty satisfied for a while. But I realize theres only so far I can go with it. And if I really wanted to go the limits with the 5cyl, then 20v Is the best option. I'm not sure how or when this project will go. Seeing as I really should stop spending so much on this hobby. But if I do it over an extended period of time I think it will work out.

So heres the deal:

The car is parked as of now. And I am on the hunt for a good 20V setup. Wether it be building the ghetto 20V setup using the NF block I have at the shop, or finding a complete 20V to build.

I will be selling the good parts of my current setup soon ie Ported and polished NF head, Custom tubular header/ Downpipe, polished intake, EFI fuel rail, Bar and plate Intercooler, etc etc....

Also I will be selling the 3.6 V8 from my V8 parts car. I was planning on dropping it in an Opel GT. But that project will have to wait for another time as I want my Audi back on the road.

I am willing to trade any of these things for 20V goodies. Just a heads up. Im not in a rush right now to part my setup as I still need to move the car around the lot and eventually bring it home for teardown. But if you are interested in anything of have some leads on a 20v NA or 20V turbo, or even a good deal on a 20V car let me know.

Thanks guys. And yes, my luck hath sucketh lately.....Not to mention I lost my cat last week as well. I've had her for 17 years. She lived a great life.

Dude that totally sucks!,

I know it's not too budget worthy, but Ron W or Austin and a AAN "they" are looking to sell.

Why don't you put the V8 engine in your 5kq? Then you could play around with twin turbos and such to make it have more "kick".

Sorry to hear of the damage. MOSFETs are sensitive to heat. Do you think that the failed device had good heat sinking? They're high impedance devices that are sensitive to voltage spikes as well. Do you think that the Megasquirt PC board provides enough filtering of voltage spikes?

At this point, would you recommend the Megasquirt ECU?

Too bad about your cat. They have a way of moving into our lives and their loss hurts.

Default When it rains it pours, believe me God always builds better things from the ashes....

Lost my '05 S-4 Avant, Lightning PU, due to unemployment and am waiting on a job to come through, could loose the house. I'm driving my 20v and am having a kick trying to bring her back to life. Personal losses such as your cat are sad, I know that they are like family...no they are family and I can share in your loss for that. You will perserver I guarantee it and with your knowlege you will build a 20V better than your previous car. V-8's are nice but a v-8 is a v-8, my S-4 was a 40-v V-8...pretty fast company....the joy of a 20v is exclusivity, bullit proof design and outrageous power if done right. I will get the same power from my 20-v and at a fraction of the cost. Go for it with the 20v. I do know where there is one here in Denver, fresh from a wreck. Motor was not touched. PM me if you are interested in me checking into it.
You are not alone...
Regards, ColoQuattro

Well there is a capacitor on the board that is suposed to help filter noise I beleive. But really who knows how it happened. I have been running this board since 03 with no problems like this before. I still would recommend Megasquirt for someone on a budget. But Im realizing that if you want it bulletproof and built right 034EFI is the way to go. But thats not cheap....

Looking closely at the driver, it appears to have gotten hot and craked in half. it is an 8 pin mosfet driver for the injector. But there are also two FET's that work in conjuction with it. I'm not really sure how they work together.....I just do the soldering

Thanks for the kind words guys.
