Default Re: Hey cuatrokoop, what car do you recomend?

Is this going to be a daily driver? Or is it just going to be a fun car.

Personally, I'd use the Ford 302. Its significantly lighter for one, and two it still has a good aftermarket support.

If it were me wanting a nice daily driver, I'd start with a 200q. Updated interior, etc. If it was just a fun car, I'd start with pretty much any 5ktq or 5kq. You can pick them up from just about anywhere for cheap, including junk yards if you can get a title with them and their bodies aren't too bad. Plus, you can always sell off any good engine components to people who want to turbo an 80/90 or a 4k series car. Just start looking in AutoTrader, on Audifans Marketplace, or if you want a 'yard car to start with see what www.car-parts.com has to offer, and call up yards you find on that site that list having parts for a 5ktq or 200q...

BTW, you can also do the swap with a B3/B4 series car with similar body/chassis mods to them to help cure the length and height issues when the new engine is bolted in.

Dry sump oiling systems, remote mount water pumps, glass fiber hoods in a similar vein to the "Shaker" and "Cowl" hoods found on Mustangs and Camaros, etc. Doing things like that should help out with clearance.

Wondering if Scott J. will chime in with his thoughts on this? Since he is pretty much the only person I know of with "BTDT" on this sort of thing, he can likely shed some light on various areas. He is on this forum...

I think the sump is in an even worse position on the Ford. For a coupe, think about the Olds Quad4. 190 hp out of the box, 300 turbo'd, and it looks like an Offenhauser with the valley cover off and the cam covers polished.

http://www.quad4rods.com/</a

The car will be a daily driver. I'll probably keep another car just incase I have problems. I was going to use a LT1 because I heard they're shorter front to back than a Ford 302. The Lt1 is taller, but that can easily be solved with a new hood, or taking the hood off. I also thought the LT1 would fit without much modification since it's only 4 cylinders long instead of 5. I thought I'd only have to get an adapter to hook up the transmission, and get new engine mounts and support stuff. Will I have to cut anything out to make it fit? Do the 5000s and 200q have the same chasis and engine bay?

I live in Indiana and I want to make the rednecks respect Audi. I can't do that with a V6. Plus those LT1's are about $100 each. I'm trying to keep everything cheap. My goal is to keep it under $2,000. I found a 17 year old guy that did it to a second gen Mazda RX-7 for $1,000. He also had to but a new transmission, so I figure I could easily do it for $2,000.

A "real" LT1, or a 350 for $100.00? The Mazda has a bigger engine compartment. See the web site for Grandma's Speed in Virginia. You can buy the whole Mazda and do the swap for less than $2000.00. The Vortec V-6 is a 6 cyl. LT1, with a lot more room left in the engine compartment. Think outside the box. There are also the Caddy and Olds V-8's (some DOHC), being from front drive cars, they have smaller sumps.
Somewhere in Australia there is an adapter to mate the 302 Ford to the Audi box, they use them in GT40's over there. I think the 302 in the Audi might be easier. More room because the distributor is in the front. Parts for anSBC are cheaper. It does seem to me that sump for the Ford is in the front, might be more problematic. The usual SBC sump solution is the pan from a '62 Nova.
Try some "hardcore" sites like Grassroots Motorsports or Hot Rods Online.

http://www.streetrodding.com/sr/index.cfm?fuseaction=forum.discussion_detail&f orumid=6&topicid=3131</a

5k and 200 use the same chassis and engine bay. You will have all sorts of fitment issues. Where to put the radiator(s), how to fit engine mounts, how to get either engine to fit length wise AND height wise.

Chevy 350 - 28 long, 26 wide, 27 tall, 525-575lbs
Ford 302 - 29 long, 24 wide, 27.5 tall, 424-460lbs

Both can easily make 300hp and loads of torque...

Default Indiana, hmm

If you really want to impress them with the sound of American Thunder, I have a rebuilt 440 kicking around. If you have the time, I have the beer.

Default Re: 302

The B3/B4 engine bay's are almost the same size as a type44's and in many ways it may be easier to swap a SBC or SBF into one of those than a type44. MC's, 7A's and AAH/AFC's are heavy motors as it is, so going with a 302 makes more sense in any case. Almost the same weight as any of those...

Kennedy Eng. Prod. makes an SBF to 016 adapter. Both that, and the SBC version are now 0.5" thick IIRC.
