MAJOR oil leakage...

i found two bolts that hold the bottom part of the timing cover on to the area where the crank pulley is. put them in today and sealed up part of my leak. however, right next to the water pump is a vacant hole that looks like it at one point held in the top part of the timing cover that goes from the water pump and idler pulley up behind the cam pulley. i probed it with a paper towel and is had lots of oil in it. my guess is this hole is the rest of my leak.
there is another hole that seems to be a dead end, just below where the head meets the block, again, looks like it held the back of the timing cover on.
can anyone verify the functions of these two holes? especially he one near the water pump...

I'd use brake cleaner or similar solvent to thoroughly clean the tapped hole and its mating bolt. Get both squeaky clean. Then apply a line of thread sealant to the bolt threads before replacing it in the hole. Use a torque wrench to torque it to spec.
I think that I settled on a fairly low adhesion Loctite with a high temperature rating as the thread sealant.
Check ETKA exploded views and Bentley Shop manual for details of what bolts go where.

The only relevant spec in this case is maximum temperature. You just don't want the goop to melt and leak out.
