Default mildly O/T a changing world.

I took my '865KQT to the local "Super" supermarket. I ended up parking next to a Lincln Continental. It appeared that it was only about 6" inches longer than my Audi. I checked on the web, it is 14 inches and outweighs the Audi by only 450lb. As some equipment on the Audi was optional, the stated weight of the Audi is probably low. I didn't think to check, but I wonder how its 3800lb compares to the current big body Audi. I guess I don't think of Lincolns as huge barges anymore. My second surprise came when I went through the store and found it sold chitlins. Do you know how many people in Attleboro, Massachusetts would recognise a chitlin if they slipped on one?

Tom, the current A6 dimensions are very close to your 86 5K TQ, there is about an inch difference in overall length, and depending upon equipment, weights can be within 100 lbs of each other.

What made me take a couple of long hard looks was when I first parked my 99.5 A4 TQMS along side the 85 5KS Avant.

The Avant is 15" longer, 3" wider, they are the same height, but the most surprising of all, the 5KS at 2850 lbs is 400 lbs lighter than the A4,
but I get better gas mileage, both city and highway with the A4.
I guess some things do change for the better.

The Audi History site quoted about 3400 for an '86 TQ about 400lb more than a regular 5k

Default Tom , when refering to curb weights only in the historical section, an 86 5KS is 2844 lbs...

on page 7 of the Haynes manual quotes the exact same figure of 2844 lbs for the Avant. My 85 5KS registrations for the past 17 years always listed the vehicle weight as 2850 lbs. Admittedly gross weights are more, maybe that is where the confusion lies.

A listing of weights:
Curb Weight: 2844 lbs. 2954 lbs. 3086 lbs. 3351lbs. The order is 5k, Avant, CS Turbo, QT

Default I also noticed that there is no data for 1985...

probably little difference between 85-86.

the Haynes manual and the historical section aside, according to the state of FL, my A4 at 3250 is 400 lbs heaver than than my 85 5KS Avant at 2850.
