Gross weight of the vehicle is the total weight of the car, passengers, fuel, cargo...
now the sticker on you car says 3946 lbs, so lets assume your car weighs 2844 lbs empty (net) which gives you a difference of 1102 lbs. That is your allowable (safe) load (people, fuel, cargo, etc.) for your car.
The most confusing weight differences & terminologies I ever had to learn was understanding the differences in the weights and classifications of ocean going ships.

heh... i've been in NC for about a year....THIS time
ive been down here before... but couldnt take the hillbilies so i moved back to jersey.
now im in charlotte area where noone is from the south, so it isnt so bad. but hopefully i'll be moving to wilmington within the next couple months. Back to the beach.
