Default New wastegate spring/ECU mod ... zoooom!

I picked up my car from Autobahn Performance here in Atlanta yesterday after they installed a stiffer spring and did the ECU mod to trick the fuel supply cut-off (see link below from an old post). Now pull 1.6-1.7 bar, and boy it's fun! Very noticeable difference. Can only imagine what a chip does, but that's not in my budget these days.<ul><li><a href="http://www.elektro.com/~audi/springs/">http://www.elektro.com/~audi/springs/</a</li></ul>

So, is it really noticable? I really need to do this to my 90 200q Avant. THe car is somewhat of a pig.

Well, I'm no longer the last in line when leaving the traffic light, and I got out of my neighborhood this a.m. without being nearly rear-ended by the nuts who drive 60 in a 45 mph zone (why people rush to work, I'll never know). Worth it to me on this car, but I don't know if results vary by model.

yeah, but spring for a real chip if you can so you're not defeating the ECU's more helpful features.

Just curious, what features specifically? As far as I know, they didn't defeat anything. They only modified when the fuel cuts out -- it will still cut off in case of a wreck.

Default If you want a chip mod for cheap, go here (QLCC details)...

The link below is to Ben Swann's website, a long time Quattro List member, click on the QLCC link in the upper right hand corner. QLCC stands for Quattro List Chip Club, which was a loose group of folks that got the code data and burned them into new main EPROM that is the 'brain' of your ECU. The QLCC incorporates higher boost (1.8 bar max) as well as all the safety features of the larger mainstream chip sellers. I am running a QLCC chipped ECU/spring combo provided by Ben and I love it!!

If you are a gearhead, and you have a 5ktq, this should be a _mandatory_ upgrade, the difference is like night and day. On the stock ECU/spring combo, you are lucky to see 1.3 bar. This is actually the point where the car wakes up and starts pulling hard, and by 1.7 you swear to yourself that this isn't the same car!

Ben can provide the chip and socket (for those on a budget) as well as the 1.8 WG spring. Or, he can provide the complete ECU (which was the route I took) if you provide a core ECU unit. I had mine installed in my sedan about 6 months ago when I sold my TQW to him, and I have had a big smile on my face ever since.

This is, bar none, the best performance deal I know of for the 5ktq's.

No financial interest, just a very satisfied customer.

Default well, you didn't say exactly what your mod is, but...

i'm assuming it's one of the early ECU hack mods (like the zener diode) that basically capped the max boost the ECU could see. so it would still think boost was 1.5 even if it was 1.8. if your wastegate/spring malfunctioned, you could potentially just keep building boost until meltdown time. a real chip (like the QLCC) keeps the ECU seeing all the boost but raises the boost mapping.

Default good page, i hadn't looked at it in a while - he's got lots of details on the other 'hacks' too...

i had Scott Mockry chip my ECU, think he uses the very similar code to QLCC. but that's a great deal if you're willing to take the soldering iron to your ECU...
