Default Newly Acquired 1988 5000CS Turbo Quattro

Hello there your guys! I have been an Audi fan for a little over two years since I acquire a 1984 4000S Quattro, it had every option and albeit getting a little beat up from the previous owner was a joy to drive and own. However, the time came and I sold it... I found another Audi project though! Saw it at a local auction and picked it up for only $500 after fees and plates. Very nice condition with 207K on the clock, very well maintained. Factory german imported fluids in the trunk, plat plugs and bosch filters. It's a (pearl white with dark blue leather) 1988 5000CS Quattro, 10v Turbo I5 engine...I love it. Anyways I have been reading as much as I can about the car and trying to get it's maintence up to spec. I was wondering what easy DIY performance modifications can be done to the engine. I have read that factory max boost is between 1.3 and 1.4 bar on the 10v and 1.8 on the 20v. I have just bought the car a week ago and haven't driven it hard really. I hear there is a $100 dollar chip out there for the car with this drivetrain that makes it boost higher like 1.8 bar range...does anyone have more information on it or where I could locate one? ohhh and does ANYONE have a passenger side headlight, it seems to be mission impossible to find a decently priced one out there. Someone bumped someone with it and broke the headlight and side turn/reflector. Thanks you guys/girls Any information is greatly appreciated. ~Blake

Thanks so much for the link! I was looking but didn't see this one, only 150$ ones and a set of euros for over $400! I just bought it so that it can be a sexy Audi again!

Thanks again for the warm welcome and help.

If I want detailed information on things like upgrade chips for engine management (what brand? what hp/torque gains? where to get them?) should I be posting in the engine specific location?

I also have a brake question, the computer display will flash brake warnings at me occasionally...my friend had a 5000S auto and I know that his cars brakes failed randomly and he flew off the road.... does this mean my "bomb" is going out I have heard about that being a common problem in these cars. Or could that be brake pads or something

anyone know?

Default Check here and email Benn Swann about a QLCC chip......

if you looking for quick easy chip upgrade this is a good start.
Also read his small write ups on chip upgrades.

Also go to SJM's site for a very good trouble shooting section for your brake issue.
Also which warning does it flash, the brake pad warning or the big red warning? HTH.

QLCC chip clik.

Thanks for the links. I will definately be looking up that information. It is the brake in the red triangle. I believe, so I have heard, that they have two computers correct? one that tells you such things like brake pads and another that tells you warnings like...E-brake is on and imminant brake failure.

The brake pad and lights on the car are through the computer "check" button by the clock right? when I hit that button it doesn't do anything. I know in the owners manual it said to hold it and push it many times to scroll across. I think the actual orange "check" button itself may have been broken. The clock is missing some lines of the digit display, however the left and right and reset for the gauge functions (bar, mpg to empty, mpg aveage, mph average...etc.) works just fine.

Just another fun little quirk to figure out

Thank you so much for that link! Wow, he is super informative and so complete in his details. That really sounds like exactly what I was looking for. I'll have fun reading all the intricacies, and checking out his preview projects for hours I'm sure.
