I'm wanting to replace cap, rotor, wires, plugs, air filter and voltage regulator today. I thought it would be nice to degrease the engine before wrenching. It's stuck at the bottom of my driveway and won't start. I've blown off every conceivable electrical connector, cap, rotor, hall sensor etc. Any ideas??

Please post the solution if you find one other than waiting. What about taking a hair dryer to the various parts? Pulling codes might direct you where to point the dryer.

I decided to just go ahead with the ignition parts swap. The plugs all looked gas-soaked when I removed them, so I suspect a spark issue. Hopefully it will fire right up when I get it back together. A couple of plugs sure didn't seem very tight, is there a torque figure I should use when installing new plugs?

Had this happen with the V8 a couple of weeks ago. I dried the block and wiring off with the air compressor and it would start but it ran very poorly. I wound up pulling apart very electrical connector I could reach, the distributor caps and blowing them dry. The car started and ran fine after that. If any water gets inside an electrical connector running a leaf blower or air compressor over is not going to affect the water that's already inside of it. No short cut solution for this problem.

I went ahead and installed the complete 8mm tune up kit from Blau. She fired right up after that. I did pull alot of connectors and blew them out, so I'm not quite sure what the deal was but I'm happy none the less. The hardest part of the job was the air filter. I just have to replace the VR now. She ran great after the tune up kit BTW. I also replaced the intake pipe with a prettier one.

"No short cut solution for this problem."
Sure there is, works great for wet cap rotor etc in very moist (torrential) conditions. Grab some aerosol hair spray and apply liberally to iginition components. The alcohol and other propellants wick up/disperse the water just like dry gas does in your tank.

the residual heat will help dry out moisture after it has gotten into electrical connections.
I once got stranded at a u-spray car wash after degreasing the motor. It took me 45 minutes to restart the motor, but finally got it going.
A no start is a very common problem with Audis. It is best to park it somewhere out of the way, and let the heat of the day and residual motor heat evaporate moisture. After a couple of hours, then restart the motor.
