Default Occasional lifter noise on a cold engine, goes away after a minute?

Is this normal? I've noticed it once since I've had the car and the sound went away after a minute.

Default This has been discussed many many many times... it's normal

If it gets really bad or bothers you then you can replace them.

The bentley says to test the lifters you run the car above 2500rpm straight for 2-3 minutes, if it still has the sound then one or more of your lifters are bad.

Yeah, they all do that. One thing that I do notice is the oil/filter that you use has an effect on the noise too. After I switched to Shell Rotella 5W40 Full-synthetic, and used a Bosch oil filter, I could only hear lifter noises after the car's been sitting for a LONG time. So try that and see if that helps.

Good luck!

Wilson.

Default It does...

but the noise will come back sooner or later...

Try doing this to quiet the lifters: use Mobil 1 15-50 oil with a Mann or Mahle filter. Top up the oil to the absolute top of the full line on the dipstick. Careful not to overfill! Then run the engine a bit as Chris described in his post. If the lifters are still noisey then the only way you'll ever get them quiet is to replace them...

Do keep in mind that even newish lifters will chatter sometimes until they are pumped up with oil...

Default Yeah...

My 4k did that once even after I added more oil and let it run for a good 5 mins. I had to actally drive the car about 10 miles, then the lifters shut up.
