open air temp. circut question
87 audi 5000 cs
has anybody ran their audi with an open air temp sensor circut, just wondering if anybody would know the effects, my car started running crappy so me and my uncle took out the air temp sensor and tested with a dmm, we came to find that the circut was open and had no choice but to shove the sensor back in the intercooler and leave the circut open, since then i get a check engine light at full throttle and there is a little hesitation before 2k, somebody told me it could be a knock sensor but on sjm.com they say that will only triggre a check engine light if its after 3000 rpm and only after the car warmed up, which is not the case for me, whenever i use wot it gives me the light no matter if its under 3k, over 3k or cool or warm. just a question any replies appreciated

Bingo. You've described the symptom.
Pull engine trouble codes. I'm sure that the ECU is telling you that the intake air temp sensor is out of range.
Time to replace it with a new one.
Use caution in doing so. Don't solder directly to the thermistor's leads. I used two small (.100 inch?) female spade connectors, soldered them to the harness, and pushed these two connectors unto the thermistor's tinned leads. Covered with heat shrink tubing. Works nicely.

Sorry you spent time & money needlessly.
I wish you better luck next time.
Every time the check engine light illuminates, the ECU has set a trouble code. On your car the trouble code is volatile: it's erased as soon as you switch off the engine. Read more at the link below.
I recommend acquiring a Bentley shop manual for your car and reading through the many excellent troubleshooting ideas here:<ul><li><a href="http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/trouble_shooting/trouble.html">http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/trouble_shooting/trouble.html</a</li></ul>
