Default Overheat light?

My overheat light in the IC is coming on (red thermometer beep beep) - the water temp gauge is fine (it moves as the car warms up), oil is fine, coolant level is fine, maybe a bit high, so what gives?

It doesn't come on the first time you start up, but then the second time you start for the day (like <1hr later), then the light comes on for sure.

Ideas where to start?

Oh, its a 91 200 20v.

Thanks!

Probably the level sensor in the coolant reservoir. You could try cleaning up the contacts (connector under the reservoir), but the only "fix" if it's that sensor is replacing the reservoir because it's built in when the mold the reservoir.

Try cleaning with a toothbrush...carefully brush the metal wire detector inside the reservoir. The coolant light in my TT used to light up every morning and this solved it.
