I'm having trouble getting the parking brake on my 86 5KQT to hold the car. I took the calliper off and it seems that the cable pulling the lever does not activate the plunger mechanism. Everything works fine when the brake pedal is pushed. I bled the lines, and the pads look fine. Any ideas?

Typical problem with all this style of rear calipers ,the internals get rusted and gummed up
and the piston no longer is actuated by the lever.
If you are "mechanical" these can be rebuilt for a very reasonable price for the parts....but it is not simple by any means.

I have the same problem on my 89 200. The cable either sticks open and or the caliper actuator freezes open so it push the brake pads. The later is what I have.
You can do one of two things:
1. replace one or both calipers.
2. bring some sand bages or chocks when you need to keep the car from rolling.
