Default Parking brake, or hand brake

If it's stuck, you can only pull it a little bit of the way, what is the problem there and how to fix this ?

Got this from a friend.

Look where the linkage enters the rear calipers and the cable where it splits to each rear wheel.

Default mine hand brake is stuck too

my hand brake won't operate at all, and hasn't for some time. I guess that the cable is rusted tight inside its casing. Is that a reasonable thought? How difficult is this to replace?

If you are Quattro it is tough because the cable is above the drive shaft. Not sure of the rest of the procedure. If you don't really miss it I would pass but be sure that it isn't causing the rear pads to drag.

How do you park on hilly roads without hand brakes if it's a 5 speed ?

Default frozen hand brake

My 86 5K is just plain garden variety, no turbo, no 5 speed, so just put it in park. I haven't used the hand brake in years. Luckily it is in the full "down" position, so it is is not dragging the rear pads. Still would like to learn how to fix it.

Default Re: Parking brake, or hand brake

Just found out that mine is out of comission as i recently replaced all my brakes and calipers and my hand brake cable is not relesasing my pads properly causing my pads to seize. so i took off my back wheel again and readjust my pads and i will no longer use my Hand brakes unless i change my cable.
