Unless someone here has the Porsche parts fiche, or has both cars, I doubt anyone knows. I also doubt that things cross-over. Only Audi I know that has a 928 engine is one of the Porsche engine/tranny test mules. It was/is a 100S Coupe, built by Audi/Porsche back in the day...Old car.
If you want to do that swap, get a templet of the bellhousing bolt pattern and compare it to the 016/01E transmission pattern. There would be LOTS of homework needed completing before even trying the swap. Why not just tune the 3.6 or 4.2 for more power? Would probably end up being cheaper!!

I doubt it is a bolt up. There are several adapter kits to mount a Chevy V8 in the 928. The only Chevy - Audi adaptor was done by Kennedy Engineered Products. I spoke with them and they told me that they had only done one for a guy in Nevada. I spoke with him and he said it had gone well enough. I recently heard from a guy in New Zealand building a GT-40 replica. Naturally, for heritage reasons, it is small block Ford; but uses an Audi 016. He is fabricating his own adapter. The short of this message is that Porsche/Audi doesn't sound like a bolt up.
Finding someone who could whip up an adapter (Kennedy for one) shouldn't be any problem. The question then becomes why bother? If Porsche people are supporting a market for Chevy replacements, there must be a lesson there. Considering all the effort, with the Chevy there is more power, cheaper. I beleve there is also a 35 pound weight saving over the Porsche. Compared to the high maintenance levels for the Porsche (special tools required) the Chevy is almost free.
I suppose that is the reason for the Chevy conversions. Older 928's run $2500-5000 around here. The cars value does not warrant the cost of keeping it up.

Yup...those 928 motors can be expen$ive to maintain. One reason why I don't want one. The LT1 powered Audi is most likely Bob Dupree's (ex?) machine, Scott Justusson helped him out with the swap (didn't think either were in NV however).
I wouldn't do the P-car V8 swap. Go with a 5.0L Ford or a 5.7L Chevy. Lotsa stuff out there for them...

It has been a few years. I got the name from Kennedy and only remember it was quite far from me. Spoke with the owner, but can't remember too much about him.

I have seen a few pages on the Chevy conversion. All seem to involve fabricating a new front cross member for oil pan clearance. I don't know if the Audi V-8 makes any accomodation for this. Interesting idea, V-8 cars are cheaper than 20V here. I haven't seen any reports on a Ford conversion. The distributor is in a much better location. Ford Performance Dept. can be quite helpful on a good day.
For some interesting conversions, see this page:

http://members.aol.com/danmas/</a
