Power window motor

Hi everyone, I have a little problem. My right side front power window would go down but not up. Thought the regulator was screwed up, but after taking off the motor separately, it's actually the motor that's at fault. It would only go one direction......very weird.... any idea of what it might be besides the motor?
Thanks,
Wilson.

If the power window motor is anything like my 865KT unit, it contains a spool around which the metal cables which pull the regulator are wrapped. When the window goes one direction but not the other, it is possible that those cables are bent or bunged up inside the motor. It isn't a very powerful motor, and that metal cable being off the threads of the spool is enough to bring the motor to a halt easily. Too much resistance.
I had the exact same problem, and took the motor apart. Motor had difficulty running until I opened it and removed the spool. Then, applying voltage, it ran fine in both directions. It looked like someone had wrapped the spool incorrectly during a previous "fix", and it was just a knot waiting to happen. I tried re-wrapping it (a little bit of trial-and-error, because you don't know how it will react under the weight of the glass) but I think the cables were too bent.
Interestingly enough, this is with my right front window.
If you can find a cheap power window regulator and motor used, with the cable in nice condition, I'd just replace it. Probably easier than monkeying around with straightening, re-spooling, etc.

Mine does the same thing and has every summer for three years. Works fine until July and I really need it then it goes on strike and stays down when I least want it to. It is on my spring fix list, again.

I actually took the motor off the window regulator assembly, so it wasn't driving any of the cables. With the motor ALONE it only went one direction.....weird.....

Did you actually take the motor out & remove the motor's faceplate? The spool on which those metal cables reside are quite prone to getting all bound up. You might pull the motor out and open it up, check it out.

Yes i did. I tested the motor all by itself with NO cables attached whatsoever. Picked up a used motor at my local yard today, will put it on tonight and see what's up.
Thanks,
Wilson.

As someone mentioned, if it only goes one direction without cables, check the switch because those are also prone to crapping out. Mine did, the front passenger switch.
Hope it works; sucks when it rains in your car.

I working on one of those spool & cable problems right now on my 86T. Any advice on how to rewind the spool properly? I'm not having a lot of luck. The motor runs fine in both directions, but when I try and rewind the spool, and drive the cables, it keeps getting bound up.
Any advice?
