Default Problem on my brothers 5000S...

My little bro is having some issues with his 5KS.

The turn signals and hazards quit working. When you turn either on there is nothing. Sometimes they will work sporadicly.

The fuses are fine. I can't find a relay for them. Is there one under the dash?

Any BTDT?

Patient is a 88 5KS.

Thanks.

could it be the column switch assembly is shorting out? mine was doing that but with the headlights. I had to flick the switch on an off to ge it to work. Spray contact cleaner in there maybe?

...did you check your directional stem connection inside the steering column. My Urq sometimes does this with the headlights. I turn them on and the H4's aren't that bright, i wiggle the high beam stem and whola! they come on. When your brother turns on his directional the stem probibly isn't making good contact. PITA to fix I imagine but I don't think there are nine relays scattered thru-out the car to govern the directionals. Then again we are talking about Audi, so maybe there is a relay under an ashtray in the rear door

Default Location of the relay

Steve, the hazard lights(turn signals) relay is located under the dash. It is not in the auxilliary relay carrier, but in the area. It is very close to the cruse control module. You will recognize the hazard relay as a 3 prongs type, and it will be alone. In the 100/200 style it lays behind the instrument cluster, so the location is different.

Default location of flasher relay

On my 86 turbo the flasher relay is in the steering column. You have to remove the steering wheel and the plastic panel behind it. The relay is right there. I couldn't believe it was in such a difficult place to get to. Hope this helps!
