Radiator fan always on after AC fix

Audi 5000 S wagon 1987: AC didn't work properly, the guy removed the relay that controlled it (probably wired it directly); now AC works OK but the radiator fan starts working as soon as I turn on the ignition and keeps going all the time until I switch off. Is there any way to get it to work as it should - only when the engine's temp. is above a certain level? Thanks.

The fan is supposed to run any time the A/C is engaged. It pulls fresh air across the A/C condensor in front of the radiator. Does the fan run when you turn off the A/C?

Actually, it didn't do that before the fix, when the AC worked occasionally, even then the fan went on only when the engine temp. went up. But now it's on the moment I turn on the ignition, even if the AC is off. So, does the AC use the same relay as the radiator fan?
