the onboard external temp display in my console, especially after sitting for a while, is way off. for example, this evening, after sitting parked in a parking garage for ~3hrs my display read 110 degrees fahrenheit when i started it up... after about 10 minutes, it finally reset to the correct reading of 84.
do i need a new temp sensor?

and being there, it catches the heat from the engine. As you drive, it cools and comes back down to a true reading. BTW, I've found mine is very accurate when underway unlike my old A4.
