I seem to recall that you just take the driveshaft off, and then inside the flange / axle-stub, there is an allen. Take that out, and the whole stub comes out (it's splined), and the seal is then easy to replace.

I remember working on an old merc, where the axle stubs are held in by C clips. What a pain. This setup is so much easier.

That's how the front gearbox is set up at least, I'm almost positive the rear is the same, but don't quote me on it.

I've done all the seals in the Rear Diff before. I had the bentley manual and it was a real help. You will have to take the rear diff to a shop to get them to press in some of the new seals. I can't remember where I got all the seals from but had no problem finding them. I would suggest doing all the seal while you are there. superdave

Are you sure about taking differential to shop for pressing new seals?

You could still just pound the seal in. I can't remember which seal it was (pressed in by the shop) but it was either the driver or passenger axel seal. The main drive shaft was pretty straight forward to replace. If there are no leaks from the drive shaft(s)seals and the R Differential is still in the car I would not pull it out. hope that helps. superdave
