Default rear strut clunk?

Hi all, I have a 1990 Quattro v8..with lots of help and advise from Ron W. I just got it out on the street..I have a weird clunk in the rear end..possible strut? The car has 101,000 mi. I notice the sound when hitting bumps, or under acceleration from stop..I cannot have the car in the shop and move it manually to find the sound..Are these models known for bad mounts etc? Thanks!

I'd suspect rear tie rods, aka rear transverse links...

Although on an '87 5000cstq, I had one of the bottom shock mounts rust off. When it happened, all of the hydraulic fluid from the shock drained out! Clunking galore!

Default I had a clunk for a few days, but it went away after the snow melted

as I had the entire rear suspension packed full of snow.

Default Yes, jack up rear of car and grab tires at 12 & 6 o'clock, push and pull as if checking ball

joints. You shouldn't get any play, you will notice right away if the transverse links are shot and clunking.

No play at all..I can only hear the noise when driving..I can't seem to make it clunk in the garage..Maybe the upper strut mounts?

Look at the bottom of the rear shock when jacked up. Is the bottom pulled away from the shock mount?
