I'd want to be sure the non-quattro tranny can take the added horsepower.

I'm swapping the tranny out of the 5000 into the 90. Should be good for about 300HP or so.

I've been reading a bit about the wastegate spring and ecu chip mod. Where can I get a chip for the mod, and any instructions on how to install it?

As far as I understand, the two transmissions are 3 speed autos, and are relatively the same. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

I'm not sure if the two trannys are the same, however, if I were tuning a turbo engine mated to an auto I would be getting a shift kit for sure. I was told not to exceed 20psi boost with my '86 cs as the transmission would not hold up.
I read about the screen that is installed to collect manufacturing debris within the fuel system. They were supposed to be removed at the 10k mile check up at the dealer. It's amazing how little we get in return for our money. Where exactly was that screen located?

The screen is located on the bottom of the fuel pump. It takes about 30 minutes to remove the fuel pump from the bottom of the tank. MAKE SURE TO UNHOOK THE BATTERY!! And be ready for lots of fumes! I used a flathead screwdriver to make a rip, then used a pair of needle nose pliars to roll the rest off. Before, the fuel pump was humming louder than the engine. Now, its quieter than a mouse.

Do you know where to get this shift kit?

Cool thanks . It's been a while since I researched the shift kit but I will look for my source.

My cs runs at 1.1 bar. 20 PSI is 1.3 bar. Not that far away. Plus, all the mods I've seen with the WG spring say that there isnt any problem with 1.8 bar and the transmission.

Does anyone know if there is a 4 speed automatic that can be mated to an 86 5000 turbo?

A new problem arose yesterday during my 8 mile drive. The oil pressure warning light comes on and stays on. I stopped and checked the oil. It was just above the full line. The engine sounded like it was pinging from being out of oil, but there was more than enough oil. I added a quart thinking that when the engine is making that sound, you can usually add a quart and the sound goes away. The sound got a bit quieter, but the warning light still stayed on.

The only thing that I can think that is wrong, is that the oil filter is severely clogged. Would that starve the engine that much?

One interesting thing I just found, suggest that overfilling the oil may have caused this problem.

on my 5k a few times I've knocked the wire off of the oil pressure sensor, which throws on the oil pressure light.. a clogged filter could do this too i suppose. how long ago was your last oil change? what grade oil, brand filter, etc?
