Default shifter bushings NLA?!!? What now?

Hi guys,

I have a 91 200 avant that I just picked up. I love the car, but the shifter is starting to act funny. I can't find first or second, and reverse and fifth are hard to get into. The stick doesnt return to center, and the ball/socket area wiggles.

I wanted to start off by getting all new bushings, and maybe linkages...but I can't find a source for them.

I can't drive the car as it sits, is there anything I can do to inspect the linkages, and see whats loose in there?

Is the 034 kit complete??

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

My problem child..

Nice car! I'm sure one of the Audi specialty shops has them, like 034 motorsports, sjm autotechnik, etc.

MY problem child :

You can get the bushing but you have to buy the whole rod to the tune of over $200. I recomend finding used good bush. FWIW the ball usally breaks/ comes loose from the the selector on the tranny and can be welded BTDT.

its not the shifter part thats bad on the car, its the linkage at the transmission near the steering rack at least, nothing in the shifter area look bad from inside the car.

I have a part number, but its NLA according to anywhere i look. SJM doesn't have it.

431-711-221 is the number...

i'll look at it more tonight, but are there any adjustments I can make? It just seems odd that it was fine one day, and terrible the next...making me think something snapped.

Youre failing to read what I posted the bushing rarely fails rather the ball breaks free thus adding play in the shifter also know as "shifter slop" Also check your tranny mounts they're probably shot.

Default crisis averted!

It was the selector rod joint at the transmission that was loose. We put it up on the hoist and noticed all the parts were rather new, but the bolt was loose.

Shifts like buttah now.
