Default so i might have to get rid of my car.

well since i still live with my parents they get to call all the shots.

im currently driving a 96 honda prelude si as my daily driver and the 90 200tq as a "hardly ever running" but mostly due to my laziness and lack of skill.

the prelude is a good car but its gettign older and its not really my sort of car anyways..its gona need some matinance real soon that ide rather not real with (im not too enthusiastic about the car if you cant tell.)

so my angry step dad said if my "car situation" isnt worked out by jan. 1st hes gona have the audi "removed"

great.

so it sounds like even if i do get the audi running he wants me to have only 1 car. getting a 90 200tq to daily driver status seems a bit far fetched and risky.

sooooo. im gona have to get rid of it from because i dont think i have much choice.

anyone have any suggestions for a daily driver? its gota be pretty cheap which also means its gona be boring, slow, and depressing.

i wouldnt mind getting a urs4 but im not even sure thats daily driver material..let alone finding one.

****!

(ill stop venting cause no one cares.)

A 96 Prelude Si is a pretty nice handling daily driver IMO. And reliable, something a daily driver must be. If it's on his property, I can see it being his business, otherwise, it isn't.
Unless your stepfather is paying for the registration/insurance on both cars. He doesn't sound very supportive.
My condolences.

Default It's not impossible to have a 2ooTQ ad a daily driver....

You just need to scratch the most likely causes of problems off the list.

Rebuild the Alternator, starter.
Do the T-belt and water pump.
Distributor cap, rotor, plugs and wires.
Solder up your WOT switch.
Replace the MFTS.
Replace the Crank and RPM sensors.
Fix the trunk hinge and drivers door wires.
If your vac lines are crappy you might want to replace a few of those as well.

That's it as far as I can recall. I drove FrankenAudi HARD and everything was fine until the tbelt skipped a couple of teeth... but that was due to hard life. They really are quite reliable IF you maintain them.

Default Gonna have to agree with Will here . . .

Hondas are great DDs. I always suggest them (and Toyotas) to my friends who are not car lovers. Personally my wife drives a '93 Nissan Sentra. I don't particularly like the car (VERY boring, can't get out of it's own way, etc.), but it HAS been very reliable for her for 10 years with minimal maintenance. And when it DOES break, it's usually pretty easy to fix (read: for ME to fix).

Admittedly once the old Nissan finally dies, I'll probably suggest something simple from the VW family. She DOES love my wagon! ;P

Maybe your step dad is just jealous of your cool and fast Audi ride? What's HE driving?

p.s. If you DO have to sell, keep me in mind, I've been wanting a 2nd car that's faster to accompany my "purple dinosaur". Not sure how the wife would feel about it, but I pay the registration etc.

Default hmm, i know all about parents not likeing a bunch of cars sitting around

but luckily my mom was never too too angry about it and understood it was what i was interested in. Now that i have my own place i'm probably going to start expanding my already large collection of vehicles. Anyway, is it parked on a public street?,thats not his property. But considering you live there pointing that out to him would probably not be in your best interest. Consider parking it down the steet

My 5k has been fairly reliable for time i've owned it, its my winter daily driver, i've done numerous minor repairs but its never left me stranded. I havn't spent much money actually fixing it, just the initial stuff you deal with when you buy a $250 car. They can certianly be reliable if you are willing to spend some time working on the minor stuff from time to time as a nearly 20 year old car will always have little things breaking. I personally would NOT own my 5k as my only car, its a wonderful car and has been reliable but i would not trust it to get me to school and work every day without fail, actually i dont trust this job to any single car. I'll always have at least 2.

Default Re: Well, you gotta WANT to wrench a bit if you're going to own a t44.

Mechanically damn near bulletproof, surprised we don't have a Volvo-style million mile club going but that said, the cars are old and **** happens.

Any chance you can park the Audi at your grandparents, uncles, sisters or wherever?

Default not sure of yr budget but assuming it's limited

you don't have to limit yourself to "boring, slow, and depressing" by any means. How about a BMW e30 coupe like the 325 ? Very tossable, nice weight to HP ratio, cool looking period car that sets you apart from the Rice-a-Roni crowd, afordable and very wrenchable (far easier than Audi's IMHO). Being that you're in AZ you have the double advantage of having lots of rust free cars for sale around you in the SW as well as not giving a hoot about the all around uselessness of old BMW's (I have an '85 E24 635) in snow. If you did not have the good taste to already appreciate the Type 44 then I would not suggest this car to you. If you have more dough again to spend then how about one those handsome little Audi mid 1990's Coupes ? Very peppy & distinctive in cabriolet !

Default "and another thing, young man !" I am honestly trying to not

sound like your father ( I am actually 50 years old and a Certified & Licensed Old Fart) but I gotta agree that it is ridiculous for you to be a young guy, living at home and obviously on a budget, not willing to wrench either car yet wanting to own two cars. I think you DO have to settle in one one car only that's a reliable (but fun !) daily driver and live with it until you can afford and want to to leave home and set yourself up independently. Now I'll shut up .... feel free to flame me as a curmudgeon .
