Temp Guage / Coolant Warning Light / Air Cond Troubles
So now that my '89 100 is back on the road with a new clutch, it's time to get the A/C up to snuff. However, the climate control will not engage the compressor.
That said, I am getting a constant coolant warning lamp(red) with intermittant beeping. Also, as soon as I turn the car on, the water temp gauge PEGS to full HOT, and then some, while I can still set my hand on the exhaust manifold. I believe that if I can solve one problem, it may solve the others....
I've tried 3 MFTS with the same results, proceeded to cut away the old MFTS socket, and replaced the terminals with female slides. Still no change.
Got the Bentley handy, but not sure what to troubleshoot first. Any ideas?

Re: Temp Guage / Coolant Warning Light / Air Cond Troubles
I'm having the EXACT same problem. I just spent $250 to convert/recharge the refrigerant in my '87 5000 only to have the compressor not want to engage. I also have the flashing red warning, but my coolant gauge is right where it should be, and the mechanic said the engine warms up to normal operating temperature. The mechanic could get the compressor to engage if he "jumped" it, and the A/C worked fine then, he just didn't have the time to troubleshoot why the comp. didn't want to engage, but he said it was very likely because of that stupid light being on. Does anyone have any idea how the original poster or I could fix this? Thanks!
