If you lie on your back in the trunk of any type 44 car and look up at the bottom side of the rear deck, you'll notice that there are three unused circular "knockouts" about two inches aft of the two existing rear deck speakers. One of the three is exactly on the centerline of the car.
I'm toying with the idea of mounting two more speakers in two of the three "knockouts", giving me four speakers total in the rear deck. Has anyone tried this?

to be honest russ just like communism in therory its a good idea. and if you feel comfortable with hacking away at the particle board or having someone eles do it go for it. but our cars are old and particle board is brittle as it is. i tried to put the little stand up tweeters from a 200 in my auto v8 by gentle shoving/cutting em through the back deck. it worked so so ended up with a not too noticable chunk missing out the back deck. dont think ill be doing it to my new 5 speed. but if you wanted then put the speaker under the deck lid? heh ive always wanted to put a speaker in the engine bay so i could work on my car to music without pissing off my neighbors in the middle of the night playing it too loud.

that back deck isn't particle board its plastic or something and looks like it was custom made for a type 44 not to mention it looks like the metal deck underneath that was cut out too, (theres no way those speakers are about 1 in deep :P ) which means upside down cutting while laying in the trunk. too hard to do yourself? probably. expensive to have someone eles do it thats super skilled with a sawsall? probably.

You still have front dash speaker openings with door openings so the car has virtually alot of stereo configurations depending upon how much money you want to spend.
