time to re-charge my A/C...what have you all paid to do this job??

If your system is R12
I'm sure it varies by area, but a full charge of R12 (approx 36 oz) at any AC shop could run you $70 thereabouts. Nowadays, most shops won't re-charge a R12 system ( any system actually), without first performing a system diagnostic at possibly an additional charge (obviously looking for more business). Chances are, if you need a recharge, you probably have a leak somewhere.
OTOH, 3 cans (36oz) of R134A available at any LAPS is about $15.

Freeze 12 is a blend of 80% R134A and 20% R142B
The 134A does the cooling and the 142B is what makes freeze 12 compatible with R12 systems, it carries the mineral oil through the system. 134A will only carry a synthetic oil (Audi uses PAG 46) through an ac system.
It is said that if you have a system leak, the 142B will leak out first leaving you with less and less oil moving through the system, until the compressor finally siezes.
I understand it costs more per can than 134A and because of the above, should only be used in good working systems.
