I got the timing adjusted correct with some help from a shop and now it starts fine and quickly. However I've noticed that after the engine has been off for about 15 minutes or so and I go out to start it (engine cold or warm) when I go to start it it'll do that same cranking for a few seconds and then start to stumble to life. Then if I turn it off and start it back up it starts fine. It only seems to still do that starting problem if the engine has been turned off for more then a few minutes. The service advisor told me that the computer may try to compensate for the timing. Any ideas if anything else is causing this? Thanks as always.

check the check valve at the fuel pump. It is suppose to maintain fuel pressure after the car is turned off. Also try blinking out any error codes.

wow deja vous. i thought my problem was unique. after changing my timing belt and stuff, it would stumpble, etc and run funny. i chased down vacum leaks, ISV and all kinds of stuff. it finally began running smoother but the start up problem remains exactly like yours.
when cold, i go to start it and it stumbles. turn it off and start again, it's fine.
your post was in the 5000/v8, etc so i assume your car is not a v6 12v.
as for the check valve, my pump is inside the tank. how do you get at the check valve?
